Meet Madeline Sandler

The artist + maker behind Earthen Hands Ceramics.

Madeline is the creator, visionary and alchemist behind Earthen Hands Ceramics. Madeline’s vessels are all handcrafted with love in San Diego, California. Since 2017 Madeline has had her hands in clay and has been learning, expanding and deepening her love for the craft ever since.

Natural tones, textures and landscapes of the earth are where she gathers most of her inspiration for her handcrafted wares. In addition to inspiration gathered from nature, Madeline ponders the connections between the human body as a vessel for creative expression and energy and manifests these connections into special vessels intended for daily use and to transcend for generations. The name ‘Earthen Hands’ originated from a deep admiration for a play on words of: ‘Earthen’; a characteristic of the earth or material existence, in this case, creating with clay from bare hands. Earthen Hands can also be heard as ‘Earth In Hands’ which she believes highlights the experience of having a piece of the earth in your hands when you hold her creations. Madeline feels deeply connected to the pieces she creates and is a maker who intentionally crafts vessels that weave aesthetic, functionality, sustainability and comfort.

Madeline is a self-taught ceramic artist and has found immense joy and purpose weaving her love of art into creating something to share with the world. Madeline is a small-batch ceramic artist, releasing collections intentionally and periodically; collections take time to build given the complexity and timeline of the craft. Nonetheless, between collections, custom orders and wholesale inquiries are welcomed! At this time, Earthen Hands Ceramics is a one woman show; including all of the creating, firings, product photography, social media, website management, marketing and shipping. Supporting a small, woman owned business means the world to Madeline so she can continue to cultivate her relationship with ceramics and grow her business.
